Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 June 2026
Focusline is built to respect your privacy. It never reads, stores, or transmits the contents of your screen, your documents, or anything you read.
What stays on your device
- Cursor position. Focusline reads where your mouse is so the reading guide can follow it. It has no way of knowing what is on your screen or under the bar. This is used in the moment and never stored or sent anywhere.
- Display information. The screen tint reads the size, position, and names of your displays so it can place an overlay on the ones you choose. This is read when needed and immediately discarded — only your choice of which displays to tint is saved.
- Your preferences. Your Modes and customisations are stored locally in standard macOS preferences and can be deleted at any time.
Analytics & crash reporting
To understand which features are used and to fix problems quickly, Focusline uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. This collects:
- Aggregate usage events — for example, which Mode (Reading, Focus, Spotlight, Night) you switch to, and whether the reading bar or screen tint is turned on. This helps us see which features matter most.
- Crash diagnostics — if the app crashes, a report (including the Mode in use and technical details) is sent so we can fix the bug.
We never collect what you read, the contents of your screen, your documents, keystrokes, or anything that could identify you personally. Analytics data is handled in accordance with Google's Firebase privacy terms.
No ads, no selling data
Focusline contains no advertising and we never sell or share your data with third parties for marketing.
Sandbox
Focusline runs inside the macOS App Sandbox. Its only network access is to send the anonymous analytics and crash data described above.
